Expert: Implement proactive measures to ensure road safety
KUALA LUMPUR: An expert has recommended moving beyond reactive measures, such as ad-hoc enforcement, to ensure road safety, particularly for buses.
Associate Professor Dr. Law Teik Hua, head of Universiti Putra Malaysia's Road Safety Research Centre, stated that reactive measures do not provide lasting solutions and fail to effectively mitigate the risk of future incidents.
Therefore, he suggested a sustainable solution, such as implementing a comprehensive safety performance index to monitor the safety of bus operations.
